Learning Through Play
With 14 Red Hat volunteers and a donation of LEGO sets, 25 children built spinning tops, confidence, and community through play-based learning.

The Essence
This initiative used LEGO to turn learning into play; children from Ukrainian refugee families and the local community explored creativity while strengthening fine motor skills, teamwork, and language development in a safe, welcoming space.
In partnership with Multikulturní Centrum Brusinka, Red Hat volunteers supported activities across Czech school preparation courses, Czech and Ukrainian language and literature classes, creative workshops, and holiday camps; LEGO became a shared language that helped kids learn and belong.
Problem
Many newly arrived families need accessible, engaging tools that support learning and social connection; without hands-on resources, it is harder to build skills and confidence.
Solution
LEGO sets were introduced into classrooms and workshops; volunteers helped children build spinning tops and other creations that encouraged problem-solving, collaboration, and joyful expression.
