Creating Habitats, Inspiring Minds
With 18 IBM volunteers, children in Bulgaria built bee hotels, discovering the importance of pollinators while giving native bees a safe place to call home.

The Essence
This initiative was about conservation, curiosity, and showing children how small actions can protect the planet.
In Bulgaria, IBM volunteers joined the Balanced Development Foundation to build bee hotels with 17 students. Through hands-on learning, the children gained a deeper understanding of ecosystems and the vital role bees play in sustaining them.
Problem
Pollinator populations, especially bees, are under threat worldwide. At the same time, children often lack accessible, practical ways to learn about environmental stewardship.
Solution
IBM volunteers worked side by side with students to create bee hotels, blending environmental education with tangible action. The activity not only supported native pollinators but also inspired children to care for the ecosystems around them.
